Semrush

Semrush is commonly one of the best and most comprehensive tools to use for keyword research. It is also one of the most expensive keyword research tool too. With plans beginning from $99 (approximately R1575) per month – billed annually – this tool requires quite the chunk of change.

That all said, Semrush offers three different tools within its keyword research offering.

  1. Keyword Magic Tool
  2. Keyword Gap Tool
  3. Position Tracking Tool

Each of these has a different functionality, but all are useful for finding and analysing keywords and monitoring your site statistics.

What makes them the best? From our experience, they have the greatest breadth of data across all countries – including South Africa – and a ton of useful built-in content marketing features to boot.

Moz

Moz is an SEO professional’s dream. It offers a variety of tools to help you find great keywords. It’s only drawback is that it doesn’t offer as many different data points as some of the other tools out there.

Moz is also free to use for up to 10 queries per day. This is great news if you are a start up or running a small business in which you don’t need to search for endless amounts. However if you do want to opt for the paid version, that starts at $99 per month.

From our experience they’re less ideal for the South African business. Their South African data set is quite limited – but this is liable to change.

AnswerThePublic

AnswerThePublic is a fabulous tool for identifying keywords and keyword topics that are popular in the moment. You type in your keyword/query. AnswerThePublic will then pull up everything that has been asked about that topic. It even sorts it into visual ‘mindmaps’ that break it down for you.

This is great for those needing to create content. Let’s face it, we are not all fountain’s of ideas and knowledge. So having a tool that can literally bring you all the questions asked about that topic is a fantastic source of inspiration.

With AnswerThePublic you are allowed one free search a day. Their paid version starts at $99 per month but it does offer a large number of additional features.
